Frequently Asked Questions:
I’m the only owner of my business. Do I have to keep these records? You do if your business is a limited liability company (LLC), corporation, limited partnership (LP), or limited liability partnership (LLP).
We’re a small business with only one or two owners. Can we waive most of these requirements? In some instances yes, and we can help you draft the appropriate waiver documents.
Can you teach us how to do some of the more routine record keeping so we can do it ourselves? Of course. We can teach you most of the basics, and then you can use us as little or much as you like after that.
Do I have to pay a monthly retainer fee to hire you? That depends on what you hire us to do for you and the payment arrangements you feel most comfortable with. Some clients prefer a recurring monthly flat fee, often called a retainer. Other clients prefer paying us for discrete projects rather than a flat monthly amount; they might pay flat fees on a per project basis. Yet other clients prefer to pay us by the hour. In some cases, we only accept hourly fee arrangements due the unpredictability of the potential legal workload.
If you attend our business’s meetings, can you help us with our other legal questions while you’re there? Yes, we are general business law attorneys and can answer most business law questions. In some situations, we cannot answer questions without performing research first, which may prevent us from providing an answer during the meeting itself. If you anticipate discussing a time sensitive legal issue at a meeting, please let us know the subject in advance so we can prepare accordingly.
